Plein air pastels, #1 - "Poppies and Lupin", (6x18),
"Santa Rosa Plateau afternoon", 11x14.
Yesterday was a marathon day of plain air painting, but I truly loved it. First we painted at the location, in the orange grove for the Redlands Conservancy Open Air Art for Open Spaces show, that will be coming up next month. Then my artists friend Terry Chacon, and I headed to the Santa Rosa Plateau, which was said to have wild flowers in bloom. We arrived in mid afternoon, and after driving around a bit, we settled on this spot by the side of the road, that had lots of rocks, wild grass with lupin and California poppies blooming. It was a great site to behold, as we have been waiting to paint wild flowers for awhile. We were also joined by two other friends/artists, Joan Coffey and Susan DeArmond, who joined us at the painting site. We all got busy painting, and before we knew it, it was 5:30 pm, time had flown by and we had all enjoyed the afternoon greatly. I was able to paint these two paintings, of the rocks, lupin and poppies. A great day of painting!!!

Great paintings, Pat. Those lupins and yellow flowers are beautiful along with the colorful boulders at the Plateau. Love the warm afternoon tones !
