Final day - Handell workshop at Three Rivers

The final day of the workshop ended with Albert demonstrating his methods of painting trees. After the demo, we all headed out to the local sandwich shop to pick up lunch, and to head out for the final afternoon of painting. We headed up to the rocks we painted at on day Three, which is behind the Buckeye Tree Lodge. This is a magical location, and the huge boulders and the river are very exciting. After a nice lunch, I put on my pack and headed down the rocks to find a location to paint. I decided to give another try at painting the running water, and of course the rocks and boulders. Tomorrow we head home. It has been a nice week, the weather was allot warmer than I expected it to be, but all in all, a great time and hopefully I will have fine tunned my skills a bit more.

Three Rivers - day 3 of painting...

Gateway rocks, 11x14 plein air pastel.

"I were here" 6x6 plein air pastel.

My painting in progress.

View of the river with boulders.

Day three of painting is over, and today I am sore after climbing around on these rocks. The Day started with Albert conducting a demo of pastel with watercolor under painting. After the demo we all got lunch and headed to this location for another great afternoon of painting. It is hard to say how beautiful this spot was, so you will have to just take my word for it. This location is by the "Gateway Restaurant and Motel" and is about 1 mile from the entrance to Sequoia National Park.

Three Rivers workshop day 2

My Second painting of the day.

Albert Handell creating another masterpiece.

Beautiful fall colors at our painting site today.

My third painting, "The red barn" 12x16 plein air pastel.

Well the second day of painting was at a beautiful farm in the North Fork area of Three Rivers. It was beautiful greenery everywhere, and of course a few trees with fall colors. My first painting of the morning was a disaster, so will not be posting it, but these other two were better. Both are mostly finished, and will post them on a later date. The workshop is fun and informative, with lots of interesting and different painting sites.

Three Rivers - workshop with Albert Handell

Albert Handell at the end of the day, and his critique of the paintings.
One of my paintings in progress.
My first painting of the day, a vista, of Slick Rock recreational area. Not one of the best, but a start, 6x18 plein air pastel.
Late afternoon shadows, 6x6 plein air pastel.
Rock shadows at the slick, 6x6 plein air pastel.

Well, I am in the beautiful region of Three Rivers, CA painting in a workshop with Albert Handell. The weather is absolutely beautiful, and we are off to a great start. Today after a short talk about color and values, we headed to the Slick Recreational area, along the side of the River whose name escapes me at the moment. Today we painted along the river backs, with beautiful vistas, and fabulous rock formations. Tomorrow, we will be in more of a forested area. Well the day ended great, with a win from the San Francisco Giants baseball, in the world series, and a great day of plein air painting. More, next time.
