PAAR Paint out - Exhibition reception

The PAAR paint out exhibition opened last light with a wonderfully attended reception and awards ceremony. I was so pleased to be chosen for the award of "Best use of Color" for my pastel of "Rocks and weeds,II". This is the second time I have painted this grouping of rocks that are at the Martha McLean Anza Narrows, in Riverside. These rocks always seem to call me, and they always look different each time I look at them. I think one reason I am so attracted to them is they are all very large boulders, with different type of lichen on them, and the weeds growing between them are also very interesting. Funny that rocks should be so much fun, but I do like to paint them. The show is at: Riverside Arts Project Gallery, at the Riverside Plaza, at 3545 Central Ave., Suite 508, Riverside, CA, and will be up through May 4th, 2011.. Thanks go out to the Riverside Arts Council who operate the gallery, and sponsored the PAAR paint out Exhibition. There are so many beautiful paintings at the gallery, you must come to see the show, and see the beautiful paintings of the Riverside landscape rendered by the PAAR artists. And of course while you are there, check out my award winner, and also a Quick draw painting I have in the show.

Day 6 - PAAR Paint out

Rock Quarry vista, I - 6x6 plein air pastel
.
Rock Quarry vista, II - 5x7 plein air pastel.

Clouds over the quarry - 11x14 plein air pastel.
Day six of the paint out was a bit cold, but never the less beautiful. The clouds were large and rolling overhead, but the sun still come out in between the cloud cover. This location of the Oak Quarry golf course was the second day we painted here, and all seemed to enjoy revisiting their prior scenes and discovering new ones. Six days of painting ... so much fun.

Day 5- PAAR Paint out - Jurupa Park

Jurupa willows - 6x6 plein air pastel.

Jurupa morning reflections - 9x12 plein air pastel.
Day 5 of the paint out, was a beautiful park in Riverside, Jurupa Park. The morning was cold and overcast, but a nice day for atmospheric paintings, along with refection's. I first tried the scene with the palm tree island and the distant willows. I'm not crazy about this one, but it is allot like the day looked. Before I left for the morning, I did a quick 6x6 of the willows that are all round the area.

Day 4 of the paint out was a beautiful location at the Rock Quarry golf course. These cliffs were beautifully lit with the morning sunlight, perfect weather and a beautiful painting location. Only one painting today, but this was enough. We'll be back at this site on Thursday. More tomorrow....

River's edge - 6x6 plein air pastel.
Rocks and weeds, II - 12x12 plein air pastel.

Day three of the paint out was at a beautiful location Martha McClain Anza Narrows in Riverside. There were beautiful vistas of the mountains around us, and a great rivers edge. the first two paintings of the morning were not great, so I have not posted them, I however painted this little 6x6 that is passable, then in the afternoon I went to the spot where these beautiful rocks are located. I painted these last year, with great success, so I decided to try them again, but try to focus a little different from last year. So here is "Rocks and weeds, II".

PAAR Paint Out - Day two

Lime Street Vista, 9x11 Plein air pastel
.

Lone Palm vista, 6x12 plein air pastel.

Clouds over Mt. Rubidoux - 6x6 plein air pastel.

Today was the second day of the 9 day PAAR paint out , but the fist day I painted, as yesterday I was involved with the check in of the 45 painters that are participating the this wonderful event. We had had some rainstorms the last few days, so we were concerned it might rain on our event, however, both days the painters have been able to paint with beautiful clouds and bright sunshine. Anyway, I think I did get caught up with the three paintings I completed today. The first painting is my attempt at a street scene, in Riverside, and after a great lunch at the Mission Inn, we headed to the Dog Park area, behind Mt Rubidoux, where I painted the last two paintings. Tomorrow, I look forward to painting in another of my favorite places in the Riverside Area. See you tomorrow.
