Trip to "The Wave" & Zion in Utah

I just returned from a wonderful trip to St. George, Utah, to visit my brother, Bob Ford and his wife Karen. While there, I experienced a once in a lifetime hike to "The Wave". This was a 7 mile round trip, hike across the desert terrain, which was at times sandy dunes, and other times, climbing rocks and heading across the desert without a trail. Our guide for this great hike was Gerry Bryant, a geologist, and expert in the area. It was also a great treat to have my cousin, Verna Ames, from Washington, along, and this was also Abbie's (my dog) first long trip, and long hikes. As you can see from these photos, the vistas were breathtaking, and quite different around each bend.

Once we arrived to the area of "The wave" the striations in the rocks were amazing, and even though they look fragile and sharp, they were very hardy, but very rough. It is very difficult to explain, but the beauty was amazing.

By the time we were heading back from the wave, the shadows across the desert were getting long and dramatic. I kept thinking I would so much love to be out here to paint this landscape, but next time, the only way might be to be dropped by helicopter.

My Cousin Verna, on the 3 1/2 mile hike back, and Abbie looking back on the trail, acting like she could do it all over again.
I feel honored to have experienced this fantastic hike. The next few days, were spent a little easier, but in other beautiful areas, of Utah, Zion National Park, and the surrounding area. More to follow... Hope you enjoyed the photos.
