"Young eucalyptus" 7x12 plein air pastel.
On Wed. I went with my friend Ada M. Passaro, to paint in a eucalyptus grove in Rancho Palos Verde area. The weather at home was a scorching 114 degrees, but in the eucalyptus grove area it seemed to be 75 and absolutely pleasant. The trees here are big and mature, and I picked a clump to trees that were inter-twined together, which was a particular challenge. One of the trees had a fire red bark that was glistening in the sunlight. It was also a challenge to paint the foliage of the trees and the background trees. Because I was looking into the sun, most of what I was looking at was back lit. Anyway, I am not entirely happy with this one, but this is my attempt at the topic of the day. While I waited for Ada to complete her painting, I also painted two other quick studies of what we could see in the area. I is truly a beautiful area, and something I must try again.
