Newport Back Bay & Crystal Cove

" Back Bay reflections" - 6x6 plein air pastel.

"Crystal Cove afternoon" - 9x12 plain air pastel.

On Thursday my friend Terry d Chacon and I took off for our weekly day of painting, and as we have been doing, we went to the beach to beat the heat of the Inland Empire. It was still quite hot there, but not near the 100+ temperatures we would have at home. After doing some framing business at Art and Frame in Irvine, we headed out to Newport Back Bay are, as Terry wanted to do one more painting there. She will be in a show this weekend at the Mute Interpretive Center of the Back Bay. There were huge thunder clouds in the sky and they were casting bright reflections in the calm water of the back bay. In my small painting I was interested in the refection's and the weeds at the edge of the marsh. After finishing there, we headed to Crystal Cove to paint an afternoon paining and have a great meal at the Beachcomber restaurant there on the beach. I think I need to add people to this painting, something I would have done, if they had not called us for our dinner reservations. I can still add some, and turn this painting into a studio painting. I'll let you know if I do.

Nice pastel work. Both are beautiful.
