Saturday - Garripata State Park and Asilomar beach

The final day of painting, I got up early to get out to Garripata State Park early, in order to catch the shadows on this vista. I have attempted to paint this view in the past, and have ended up with a confusing painting, it is however so very beautiful, I wanted to try again. The ground color is just starting to show it's brilliant colors, in a few more day/weeks the reds will be allot brighter. When I started my painting the weather was beautiful, as you can see from my photo the sea was calm, so was the wind. Well.... it did not stay that way, and because I was painting close to the cliff, it became difficult to hold my painting on the easel. In about 45 minutes, the wind started up, and before I could secure my easel with a rock, I knew, I had to leave. My friend Lilli was with me, thank goodness, and she helped me pack up in a hurry. By the time I was leaving, we could hardly stand upright on the hike back to the car. I was not able to finish the painting, but got most of it completed.

After a nice lunch in Carmel, Lilli and I headed back to Pacific Grove, and I headed out to the boardwalks on Asilomar beach. I walked up to an area where you could see the dunes with their wildflowers in the foreground, and the beach in the distance. I started painting, and the weather was calm an warm. In about 1/2 hour, the clouds started to roll in, and it became colder, and that wind started up, once more. I think it was a sign, that my final day of painting in the paradise was over. The drive home was uneventful, and I will be posting the paintings on the blog later this week.
